Joseph Allen is a legal practicioner with a wide ranging legal practice, based on 38 years of civil and criminal trial experience in the public and private sectors. Allen focuses on civil and criminal litigation, writs and appeals. He also provides consulting and expert witness services to other attorneys.
A 25-year resident of Santa Barbara, Allen served the county as senior deputy county counsel for the land use group, as supervising judicial research attorney for the Superior Court and as deputy public defender. He was previously chief public defender and elected district attorney of Mendocino County.
Allen, who graduated from Boalt Hall School of Law in 1970, has taught at the Santa Barbara and Ventural Colleges of Law. He has been certified as a specialist in criminal law and was appointed as judge pro tem for the Santa Barbara Superior Court.
Emily Allen
Emily Allen is a graduate of Loyola Law School, Los Angeles. She served as Chair of the Loyola Law School Public Interest Law Foundation and received the "Outstanding Woman Law Student" award of 2004.
Emily serves on the Boards of the Santa Barbara Community Houisng Coorporation (a non-profit providing affordable housing to low income residents of Santa Barbara County since 1975), the Planned Parenthood Action Fund, the Democratic Women of Santa Barbara County and the Santa Barbara County Action Network.
Emily served on the Prevention and Supportive Housing Subcommittees of the 10 Year Plan to End Chornic Homelessness and is an appointed member of the City/County South Coast Homeless Advisory Committee.
Emily continues to work on public interest law projects, particularly those that assist the homeless and the disabled.
